Heavy rains threaten floods in Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Romania and Germany. Thus, in Austria, a disaster zone has been declared, which includes dozens of settlements, in Romania, at least four people have already died due to flooding.
S-70 helicopters of the Austrian armed forces are helping to evacuate residents during the flood. In the Austrian commune of Markersdorf, a dramatic situation has developed – due to the onset of water, it is no longer possible to reach some settlements by land. At least two people had to be rescued by helicopters. The Danube in Austria is expected to reach a level that, on average, only happens once every 30 years. Most likely, the peak values will occur on Monday evening.
According to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, in some areas of Poland more rain has already fallen than during the so-called Millennium Flood in 1997. The evacuation of residents also continues in the Czech Republic, where authorities are rushing to evacuate thousands of people from the city of Opava, which is located on the border with Poland.
German authorities report that incessant rains in the Czech Republic and Poland may also lead to flooding in the state of Brandenburg. This situation may also partially affect the transportation of goods for the Ukrainian Armed Forces from bordering countries.
